About Learning at TCAT

Why train with us?

Bridgewater Teaching School is at the heart of Learning at TCAT. TCAT is an innovative Multi Academy Trust (MAT) comprised of the following schools: Bridgewater High School, Beamont Collegiate Academy, Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School, Penketh High School, Priestley Sixth Form College and two Primary Schools – Great Sankey Primary School and Penketh South Community Primary School. This unique MAT is the first in the country to include a Sixth Form College, primary schools and secondary schools, one of which is a faith school. Our location is ideally placed, being equidistant between Liverpool and Manchester and all our partner schools are within a five mile radius. Bridgewater Teaching School is responsible for the design and delivery of our school-centred Initial Teacher Training Programme (SCITT). Our programme leads to QTS, accredited by The Endeavour Learning SCITT, and the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Masters’ level (validation pending) through Liverpool John Moores University.

Bridgewater Teaching School ensures that we prepare trainees to become outstanding teachers by providing inspiring and high quality training within creative school partnerships. Whilst completing your training, you will complete two secondary placements. TCAT, as a Multi Academy Trust, offers Teacher Trainees the opportunity to work with students from a diverse range of social backgrounds and abilities from SEND to the most able. TCAT can also provide significant opportunities beyond your two secondary teaching placements. We offer bespoke placements for those wishing to pursue particular areas of development, such as Inclusion and STEM.

SEND

Learning at TCAT is founded upon a profound commitment to inclusion. One opportunity includes gaining a better understanding of students with ASD through our Designated Provisions.

Support for the development of your subject knowledge

One of the fundamental aspects of Learning at TCAT is evidence-based practice and involvement in research projects. This offers you the ideal opportunity to develop your subject knowledge and pedagogy. In addition, you will be able to enrich and expand your experience beyond your two placement schools via opportunities to visit other departments within the family of TCAT schools. Particular strengths within TCAT are an expanding STEM pathways programme and a renowned Performing Arts programme.

Key stage 5 experience

We can provide the opportunity to observe and deliver aspects of Advanced level courses and Level 3 BTEC qualifications at Priestley College.

Enrichment

There will be opportunities to be involved in our highly successful Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme programme. Teacher Trainees can choose to support students as they complete their Bronze, Silver or Gold programme.

We will help you to meet your aspirations

Our School Direct Trainees are supported, challenged and inspired to achieve their potential so that they, in turn, inspire the next generation to achieve the very best for themselves and their communities. We both challenge and support you throughout your journey. We have enthusiastic and dedicated staff across the Partnership who will enable you to fulfil your potential.

In addition to completing your two extended school placements, TCAT can provide a wealth of opportunities to enrich your training.

  • You will have access to a dedicated Personal Tutor and a dedicated Curriculum Mentor. Primary experience will be arranged in our Partner primary schools.
  • Our NQT support programme will support you through your first year of teaching and beyond.
  • Our Induction Programme starts in July and continues into September which provides our trainees with time together as a cohort.

Our school-based programme is designed to create the next generation of outstanding teachers who will help lead our schools and our pupils to success. Led by experienced, practising teachers and school leaders, this programme will provide you with a firm foundation on which you can build your future teaching career. We only recruit the highest calibre of trainee to join our exciting, personalised programme. Successful applicants will become part of our network of trainees who operate at the highest standards, are fully integrated into our schools and have carefully tailored opportunities to ensure they are the best teacher they can be. The Bridgewater Teaching School not only effectively supports you to put theory into practice, but allows you to progress through a carefully designed pathway tailored to your individual needs, developing knowledge, skills and understanding of teaching and learning.
