Martha Hurst (Y10) – Swimming Success

It is always great to hear about the successes of our students out of school and Martha’s fantastic achievements are certainly a testament to what you can attain with the necessary hard work and rigour:

On 4th May 2019 Martha was part of a relay team that broke a world record! The race was 100 x 50m Freestyle relay which they finished in 43.32.36, knocking 4 minutes off the previous time which was held by Americans. The race was under strict FINA guidelines and it will be recorded in The Guinness Book of Records.

Martha also recently swam in the North west Regional Championships where she won 3 golds and 2 silvers. She also swam 6 qualifying times for the British and English Championships to be held in Glasgow & Sheffield in July.

Martha swims for Stockport Metro under head coach Richard Blackshaw. She swims 8 sessions a week, twice a day on Mondays & Thursdays; she is up at 4am and in Stockport for 5am those days. She swims 19 hours a week.

Congratulations on your achievements, Martha. You are an inspiration to your fellow students.
