Shakespeare Schools Festival

Our Y11 BTEC students are to be involved in the Shakespeare Schools Festival again: Macbeth on Nov 6th at the Contact Theatre in Manchester.

The students are performing a 30 minute version of Macbeth. This one, however, has a difference! We are using the character of Darth Vader from Star Wars as a parallel to Macbeth. The play is using Star Wars characters such as Darth Vader and Obi Wan to react to the speeches originally spoken by Macbeth and Banquo. The contemporary language has been changed into Shakespeare’s language. We also explore the character of Lady Macbeth and ask the audience if she was the puppeteer. We compare Macduff to Yoda – who in the end “defeats the dark-side”. The performance begins and ends in a circus of tight rope walkers, magicians, fortune tellers (the witches) and a haunted house. It is amazing how much you can fit into 30 minutes!! We have some wonderful, talented students and this is an inspirational experience working with professionals within the Arts.
